The Sterling Navy Knights are back in action for the
2013-2014 school year. Now with over 90 students, the Navy Knights goal for the new school year is
rebuilding. So far, they are pursuing
their goal. The unit participated in several events this so far year. On Tuesday,
September 24 the unit had its first Annual Military Inspection (AMI) of the
year. The company prepared for this nerve-wrecking event for almost two weeks.
The AMI consists of two parts; the inspection and a pass in review ceremony. During the school day, all of the cadets were
inspected by the Area 4 Manager, Commander Joseph W. Hankins. During the pass
in review ceremony the unit marched around the gym; showing off their well-coordinated
uniforms. The Navy Knights were awarded with the unit achievement award.

The 2013 Sterling High ROTC program |
The unit had a busy October. On October 6, 2013 the Navy
Knights helped tremendously with the Stratford Fall Festival. The company
helped with set up and cleanup. Four of the cadets from the unit did color
guard and the unit even got to man some of the rides. On October 12, the Navy
Knights had their first drill meet at Cherokee High School. This drill meet was
specifically for 1st and 2nd year cadets, so they could get used to the drill
meet atmosphere. After a few demonstrations, the competition started. The
company left with a first place trophy in unarmed drill. Last but not least,
the Navy Knights helped with the Blood Drive at Sterling High on October 21.
The unit helped the donors by keeping conversation with them while they gave
blood. Also, the Navy Knights helped with set up, clean up, and giving out food
to the donors after they donated their blood. This is just the start of the
Navy Knights awesome year. Expect to hear more about this amazing group of students,
The Sterling Navy Knights.
