Fall Poetry Edition: "The Balloons"

"The Balloons"
By Emily Winters, '17

Far above the much alive land,

In the sky that is so still one might not know if it is living too…

They are drifting on and on,

Away from the worries of the normals on the ground.

With them though, they carry a piece of the hopes, the dreams, the fears,

Of those below.

They carry them like weights;

Tethering them to the Earth and its inhabitants.

You, as you are a normal and cannot fly away also, watch as they drift,

Ever so far away into the pale blue sky…

You ponder whether someone will ever read what you have written…

It is said that what goes up, must come down,

But is that the same with hope?

Just let your fears fade away.

Fade just like the drifters in the sky float away from you.
