Sterling's Got Talent!

Thursday, May 3, 2012 was a night to remember as ten groups of Sterling Silver Knights competed to win the annual Talent Show.  Put on by Mr. Kelsey each year as a fundraiser for Project Graduation, where the proceeds go towards the party for the graduating class after graduation, this event is usually a huge hit.  This year was no exception.

The night started out with the singing of our National Anthem by Prince Fredrick and then got right into the acts. First up was Monica Segeren singing the song “Hallelujah” with the most confidence and poise that I have ever seen.  Samantha Witkins then entered the stage and sang “Motions of Mercy” originally by Francesca Battistelli.

The action continued on into the third act as Courtney Clark played the marimba and Danielle Townsend sang as they performed Christina Perri’s recent hit song, “A Thousand Years.”  After that, AC and DeLano Fresh stepped out on the stage to present their act, two original rap songs that got the crowd pumped up even more. Then before intermission, Almeer McCoy and John Glimp took the spotlight and sang a cover of Bruno Mars’s song “Talking to the Moon.”

When the lights dimmed back down after intermission, Doris, Kaitlyn, and Jess walked on stage and performed “Concrete Angel” on the piano with a dance to accompany it.  The crowd went wild for them as they left and Raheem and Kiarla came on.  This duet had big shoes to fill and did a wonderful job of it as they performed a version of the ever popular, Evolution of Dance.  Rachel Clark and Katie Muska then entered the stage a performed an amazing duet of the song “For Good” from the Broadway musical Wicked.

The crowd was now even more energized when the group of Dwade and Donte, or GMG, came out they had a lot to live up to.  They performed two songs, “It Takes Two” and “Lean With It.”  The last group was The Spotlight Dancers, comprised of Mia Falco and Paige Glenn, who carried out a dance routine of the popular song “DJ’s Got Us Fallin’ in Love Again” by Usher and Pitbull.  And that was the show; it was now time for the judges to choose the winners.

In third place was GMG, in second came Doris, Kaitlyn, and Jess, and finally in first place was the remarkable duo of Rachel Clark and Katie Muska.  Congratulations went out to all of the entries for showcasing their talents, as it was a close show.  Thanks went out to Mr. Kelsey, the Project Graduation committee, the Sterling administration, and the Channel 19 Tech and Stage Crews for their help in making the show all that it was.  But most of all, the thanks went out to the audience for their support of the students and all of their talents.
