The Instrumental Spring
Concert was on May 16, 2012 and was conducted by Mr. Goldeck. It was a concert
full of excitement with the band playing the dramatic and classic melodies from
Sweeney Todd, and composer, Jan Van
der Roost’s very blithe and cheerful Dances
of Innocence which was written and dedicated to her daughter who had passed
years ago. Indoor Percussion played a
sample of their composition of what we can expect to hear in the future.
The Jazz Band
performed with George Rabbai who plays the trumpet and has recorded two solo
albums of his work. He previously played in the background behind Rosemary
Clooney and Michael Feinstein. He is the director of the Music Department at
Rowan University and Mr. Goldeck had the opportunity to study under him when he
attended Rowan. The Jazz Band performed tunes such as “Tricky Sticks” and
“Cerulean Blue” written by Gregory Yasinitsky. They ended the show with “Feels
So Good” featuring George Rabbai on the Flugelhorn. Overall, the students
showed tremendous enthusiasm and musicianship. I found their performance to be outstanding.
