Short Story Selection: "The Unborn"

"The Unborn"
By Amanda Pease

Let’s step away from today and jump into the tale about how four heroes single-handedly saved the human race from a terrifying zombie takeover.
Once upon a nightmare, there came a time in the early 20th century when the world was nearly swallowed up by zombies. Underneath a museum in New York was a safe haven, as of now, for our three heroes: Steve Prefontaine Jr., Doc, and OGB. They weren’t your everyday heroes… they were better.

While they were trying to stay alive, they searched for a different route or something of importance to assist them. During their search, Doc comes across an inscription along the wall. He called Steve and OGB to help him get all the dirt out of the crevices for it to be readable. Doc interpreted the symbols of the ancient Whellerman Rhoob language to the other men. It read, “To one day may come, where all humanity will need a key. It dissembles but remains in London for all to see.” The men have no clue what they’re looking for, but off to London they went.

On their quest, they feel like they were walking forever to find this “key.” The worst part is that they had no idea what it was. Their only clue was that it was in London, dissembling, and out in the open. The heroes decided to have Steve go out running and to search the entire land. OGB and Doc stayed in the woods so Steve would know where to find them.

By midday, Steve came across a knight in shining armor with flowers and moss all over it. He thought this was very strange. Steve thought, “Maybe this is it!” He went to pick up the suit of armor and found out that it was not empty!

Doc and OGB had no idea when Steve was coming back. It was almost time for the sun to fall and the moon to rise. Out of the trees they see two figures coming their way. OGB morphed into a werewolf to find out what was coming their way. Once he reached them, he became very confused. Steve had found the key! In the knight suit was a hippie and her name was Manny Aarp.

She explained who she was and why she was in the suit. The heroes were uneasy with the woman, because they didn’t know whether to believe her or to just flout at her story. She said, “In Russia, is the place to go, the place where fear is all you know. Under control of the Czar is the places of revolters are. All their efforts got, were “no’s,” the size of a lot. The months of nine later, a communist revolution came back only greater. The key is me, to help you find the Czar and see, that the unborn, which is he, will be defeated as humanity may know.”

In the end they chose to give her a chance. When they arrived in Russia they noticed people were everywhere! Where the Unborn was, nobody knew. Doc thought, “If all the people are looking, where isn’t being searched?!” He told the three to find an underground area, of any kind. Manny led them to the forest to find any holes or cave. OGB searched all the area and found a trap that leads to a bunker-like area. They now knew he was there.

The four heroes went to find all the revolters and lead them to the Unborn. He had no idea they were coming, causing him and his family to be unprepared. Little Lenon was the only one who came out of the Czar family alive, on that night in September. Doc couldn’t let a defenseless baby die so he took little Lenon in as a son of his own. Manny and Doc had to finish their job. Doc’s healing powers added with Manny’s nature proclivity was the perfect cocktail to help the world. They took the Unborn’s heart and destroyed it along with all of the souls it had pilfered from the GODs.

All the unrested souls were finally in peace. The four heroes had to part their ways and left Lenon to watch over Russia until he had an heir to take over. Changing the capital to Moscow, he improved it as he planned. Forever in their lives they knew of the three who came and the five that prevailed.
