A Night for Knights: The Silver Awards

Ever wonder what exactly is a Silver Award?  The Silver Awards are a group of awards given to various students nominated by different teachers based on strong leadership, citizenship, self-improvement, and the desire to help others, along with many other honorable reasons.  This “Night for Knights” is part of Sterling’s Renaissance Program, which encourages students to strive for academic excellence and participation in extra-curricular activities, as well as performing charitable acts inside and outside the classroom.

             This year, the event was held on Thursday, May 24, 2012 and 28 out of over 900 students were chosen to receive these awards.  “It’s a hard decision,” said Ms. Cammarata, Sterling High School world language teacher and Master of Ceremonies for the evening, “picking amongst all the students, one that takes a lot of consideration.”  She also said that the night will be full of tears as the students learned who their nominators were and heard their kind and encouraging words of why they chose them.  That was an understatement.

            Thanks for supporting the students and making the night memorable went out to all the guests who came, the Silver Award Committee, the Sterling faculty and staff for their nominations, Mr. Riley for making the food for the reception prior to the ceremony, the Sterling administration, and Mr. Kozeniewski and the Sterling Tech Crew for the lighting, sound, and recording.  The whole event can be seen on Channel 19 or streamed through the Channel 19 link on the Sterling website, but here’s a list of each of the award winners and the faculty members that had nominated them.
