You may have heard of the British/Irish boy band One Direction floating through
the halls, or making an appearance on your Instagram feed. These five boys, or should
I say men, met when they all participated in the popular television show The X Factor
UK. Members Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson
all shared one thing in common when appearing on the 2010 season: the dream of
becoming pop sensations. In the beginning, none of the boys knew each other before
being put in a random group by Simon Cowell, the founder of Syco Music (which
besides Columbia Records, is one of the band’s labels). But they joined together to
become what we know now as the band One Direction. Although they came in third place
on The X Factor, both the world and these once normal boys had no clue what was
about to come.
One Direction’s most recent album, Midnight Memories was released on
November 25, 2013 and includes their hit song “Best Song Ever” from their
documentary, This is Us, as well as a more personal track with a heart melting effect
titled “Story of My Life.” Being put at number 1 on Billboard 200 once again with their
third album, One Direction has changed their music to a less pop orientated, more
edgy rock sound, a big change from their past albums. These once normal small-town
boys have now grown into huge pop stars, loved by girls across the globe from their
home countries of England and Ireland to Japan, Australia, Canada, America, and more!
One Direction is the band of the century! Although they receive a few hateful
words here and there, most love and adore them, me being one of them. Most believe
that if you are a fan of One Direction you're around the age of 12, but what most people
don’t know is that people of all ages have gotten the so called “One Direction Infection.”
From the age of 12 to 80, these boys have made both girls and boys alike fall head over
heels for them. They appeal to a huge variety of fans, which is probably one of the
many reasons they have succeeded in becoming international super stars! So who
knows, maybe you to will have the case of “One Direction Infection." And no need to be
ashamed—who wouldn’t fall in love with these guys?
