Although many new movies have made an appearance to our local movie theaters, the one I saw recently was Ride Along, starring actor Ice Cube and the very popular comedian Kevin Hart. Released on January 17th, this movie has been very successful, making $100 million dollars total. It runs for a total of an hour and forty minutes and is rated PG-13,(perfect for high school students) and is currently rated a 6.4 out of 10.
Hart is known for his funny antics and snarky remarks, but he shows a more serious side in this movie. He plays Ben Barber, a wanna-be detective going on an unlikely adventure with his girlfriend’s brother James, who just so happens to be a APD detective. Ben goes on this “ride along” with James in hopes of receiving his blessing in marrying his sister. James does not take it seriously, and brings Ben on trips to useless work, jobs that no one wants to deal with. Frustrated, Ben considers quitting trying to impress James, feeling as if it is close to impossible. Soon though, a more serious case that James has been working on for the past 2 years turns up a lead, thanks to Ben and his gamer skills. James goes to find this long time
criminal, leaving Ben behind. Let’s just say by the end of Ride Along Ben gets James’
blessing, but not without a few bumps in the road.
“Ride Along” had a perfect balance of comedy and heartfelt moments, making you laugh and feel bad for the characters. This being said, I enjoyed the movie, although it wasn’t the best I’ve seen. It's a great movie to go with a group of friends and have a good time with a few laughing fits in between. So if it’s a lazy day and you just don’t know what to do, go see Ride Along with some friends, because we all know movies are always better when friends join in!
