Staring at the Audience Part 3

By Sophia Vicari
I will come right out and say it:  I simply cannot believe that my junior year musical and Spring Concert are over.  It seems like just yesterday I was a nervous eighth grader auditioning for Silvertones, and now I’ve just auditioned for the last time.  Time flies when you’re stressed- I mean having fun.
Sterling’s Spring Musical, Fiddler on the Roof, starring sophomore James Carman as Tevye and senior Morgan Fisher as Golde, was a huge success.  This was one of those shows that could have made millions as a documentary with it coming together in the eleventh hour.  This musical tells a story, and one must appreciate the story to appreciate the message. To our surprise, people took the time to appreciate the story and loved the musical.  Plot twist: even the assemblies were well-received!  Of course, the show was enhanced by the adorableness of the grade-schoolers who played the children of Anatevka, including Paige Andersen as Shprintze and Olivia Rogers as Bielke.  This year we had adorable prom proposals during show weekend (I was one of the lucky ladies!), and keeping with “tradition” there were dancing and tears at the cast party. It was a rollercoaster of a musical but it was so worth it.
The Spring Concert was another success finished in the eleventh hour.  We sung highlights from our fall Political assembly, the Silvertones performed "Chicago" for the last time, and we closed with an Arabian theme.  The last time performing "Chicago" was so bittersweet because although we did fantastic, it was the last time performing with the seniors.  It was the last time this family got to be on stage doing what we love.  The Arabian theme was fun because we performed hits from Aladdin, “A Thousand and One Nights” from TV’s Smash, and the Polovtsian Dances from Borodin’s opera “Prince Igor”.  We “made way for Prince Ali”, senior AJ Maiatico, and senior Katie Muska showed took us to “A Whole New World’ with her beautiful voice.  The dancers did great and the soloists, including juniors Kylie Young, Chelsea Korn, and Jesse Panico sounded amazing! One positive thing this performer got out of the concert was motivation to work hard in gym class after seeing our Arabian costumes (belly shirts and genie pants). I am thrilled that we took the audience’s hearts and melted them like they were gold.
The Silvertones’ last performance will be at the Baccalaureate, and four seniors will perform the quartet at graduation.   It is such a blessing to have been a part of such a successful year in Sterling’s performing arts program.  Congratulations on a great year, Silvertones and chorus!
